To reduce fever, calf compresses are still the tried and tested household remedy. Unlike antipyretic drugs, they have no side effects. However, the conventional method is rather inconvenient because, on the one hand, the bed, clothes and blankets have to be protected from getting wet. On the other hand, the fever patient should lie still so that nothing slips – rather difficult with small children. The wraps also have to be changed regularly. This means that a restful night’s sleep is no longer an option.
